Tax Manager - Compliance
Base pay range: $/yr - $/yr
Location:
Charlotte, NC (hybrid)
We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead and oversee tax compliance for a diverse client base. This role is primarily compliance-focused and requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to manage complex filings while mentoring staff and maintaining client relationships.
Key Responsibilities- Tax Compliance & Review
- Manage and review federal, state, and local tax returns for:
- Partnerships and LLCs (multi-state)
- S-Corporations
- Trusts, estates, and high-net-worth individuals
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of complex tax filings, including K-1s, composite returns, and estimated tax payments.
- Oversee compliance for multi-state and tiered partnership structures.
- Identify and resolve technical tax issues related to pass-through taxation, basis, at-risk rules, and SALT considerations.
- Manage and review federal, state, and local tax returns for:
- Client Management
- Serve as primary point of contact for assigned clients, responding to tax compliance questions and requests.
- Communicate complex tax matters clearly and effectively to clients.
- Coordinate with clients to gather information and ensure deadlines are met.
- Team Leadership & Workflow Management
- Review work prepared by seniors and staff; provide constructive feedback and technical guidance.
- Manage engagement timelines, staffing, and workload to ensure efficient delivery of services.
- Mentor and develop junior team members.
- Process & Quality Control
- Ensure compliance with firm policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with improving tax compliance processes, documentation, and workflow efficiencies.
- Support tax notices, audits, and correspondence with taxing authorities as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field (Master's in Accounting preferred)
- CPA required.
- 6-10+ years of tax experience, primarily in public accounting.
- Extensive experience with pass-through entities and high-net-worth individual tax compliance.
- Strong knowledge of federal and multi-state tax regulations.
- Experience reviewing complex tax returns and managing multiple engagements.
- Proficiency in tax software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
