Overview

Transportation Worker 1 Equipment Operator - Putnam County in Charleston, WV. The Transportation Worker 1 Equipment Operator will report to the Putnam County Headquarters. Under supervision, performs entry-level duties in the construction and maintenance of highways.

• Operate a light truck or vehicle in regular operations and during snow removal and ice control (SRIC).
• Operate equipment such as a fork truck, end loader, skid steer, rollers, utility tractor, and brush chipper; use various hand tools as needed.
• Fill in answering telephone and radio calls during SRIC; transport materials or fuel to equipment; provide traffic control by flagging on job sites.
• Perform minor maintenance on fleet equipment and vehicles.
• Travel may be required; a valid driver’s license is required.
• Maintain and follow safety procedures; may be exposed to hazardous conditions and inclement weather.
• In the area of Equipment Operator, a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required within six (6) months of employment.

• Entry-level classification in this series; no prior experience required.
• Knowledge of general safety procedures and of maintenance/repair of motor-driven equipment.
• Ability to diagnose minor mechanical problems and follow instructions; ability to learn from examples and work cooperatively with others.
• Ability to maintain routine records (timecards, repair work orders).

• Pay Grade 10H;
  Hourly Rate: $15.4913.
• Selected applicants will be placed in a U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship program.
