Food Service Coordinators work closely with clients and staff under the direction of the Program and Assistant Directors. They are responsible for all operations for the shelter’s food service program. They provide supervision, planning, and preparation of all nutritional meals and snacks served while maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of the kitchen and cafeteria.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Planning the shelter menus as required and reviewing them with the Assistant Director.
- Ordering required supplies and ingredients for weekly food service.
- Prepare a list of food and/or supplies to be ordered and submit it to the Assistant Director weekly.
- Prepare breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks daily for the shelter.
- Maintain records of food that is purchased and received, including food donations.
- Participate in nutritional education activities and assist and monitor volunteers under health and safety requirements.
- Meet quarterly with the Assistant Director to assess the quality/quantity of meals, and efficiency of using commodity foods, WV Harvest Foods, other donated foods, and standard inventory.
- Assist with pick-up and storage of USDA Commodity Foods, Mountaineer Food Bank, etc. supplies as needed.
- Assure that food is stored, dated, labeled, and prepared properly.
- Monitor storage and other equipment for safe food preparation and storage.
- Make sure kitchen areas are secured at the end of the day.
- Supervise staff that perform food service and kitchen sanitation functions.
- Maintain an organized and clean environment including daily cleaning of kitchen areas.
- Maintain records as required by the Health Department, DHHR licensing, the Federal Food Program, and the YWCA about food service and the children served daily, weekly, and monthly.
- Attend training as required by DHHR licensing, the Federal Food Program, and the YWCA.
- Maintain a record of recipes and special directions.
- Relevant experience in the field of food preparation.
- High School diploma or GED preferred but not required.
- Certification in Food Preparation preferred but not required.
