Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department Holding Unit position, requiring a WV or compact RN license and night shifts.
Responsibilities- Work in the ED Holding Unit of a major teaching hospital and Level IV Trauma Center
- Adult and geriatric patient population
- Nights, 7p-7a, with options for 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts
- Required to work every other weekend
- Floating to ED may be required
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5
- Uses Cerner for charting
- Main responsibilities include providing nursing care for adult and geriatric patients in the ED Holding Unit
- Will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and float to the main ED as needed
- First-time travelers with required experience will be considered
- Perm employees cannot return as travelers for at least 2 years after last permanent day worked
- Flu vaccine required during October 1 to March 31 unless medically exempt
- Scrub color is royal blue or white for RNs
- Free parking is provided for travelers
- No COVID-19 vaccine requirement
- Active WV or compact RN license (pending allowed, must be active for consideration)
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and CPI certifications required (CPI must be obtained before start)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience with at least 1 year in specialty
- Experience in MS/Tele, telemetry, or ER holding preferred
- IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, peripheral line care, and starting IV skills required
- Ability to administer heparin and manage cardiac drips (no titration)
- Experience with neurological and psychiatric care, including CVA, seizure disorders, and substance withdrawal
- Familiarity with respiratory interventions such as CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, oxygen therapy, and non-invasive airway management
- Experience with ventilated patients and tracheostomy management preferred
- Cerner charting experience required
