Purpose: This Ameri Corps VISTA position is part of an program focused on strengthening environmental restoration and community development across Appalachian communities in West Virginia by building the capacity of organizations that protect and restore the state’s rivers and streams. The program emphasizes collaboration, environmental stewardship, equity, and long-term sustainability to improve water quality, habitat health, recreation, and community well-being.
What you will do (Description Of Duties)- Researching and documenting community assets that can serve as foundations for environmental restoration and community development projects
- Developing a staff toolkit that highlights watershed association success stories for use in websites, digital platforms, and print publications
- Creating a structured plan and internal guidance for staff to prepare and submit grant applications that support priority community assets
- Developing a project team facilitation toolkit to help staff coordinate partners, manage projects effectively, and strengthen organizational capacity
- Designing a volunteer recognition framework that supports retention and engagement while aligning with organizational values
- Creating and maintaining a database to identify and track organizations that may benefit from future project partnerships
- Developing a strategic plan to support staff-led recruitment of volunteers and prospective members for the organization’s Board of Directors
- United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien
- At least 18 years of age
- College graduate
- Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check

- Typically, this position is expected to serve full-time (35-40 hours), but exact schedules may vary.
- Member may be required to participate in national, state, or local service projects or events as part of their service term.
- Member will receive an orientation that includes training on Ameri Corps prohibited and unallowable activities.
- Member will receive a Virtual Member Orientation (VMO) from VISTA on their first day of service.
- Segal Ameri Corps Education Award of $7,395.00
- Option of cash stipend of approximately $1,800.00
- Living Allowance of $68.39 per day, disbursed every 2 weeks

Performance will be evaluated on whether the member has completed the required year of service, satisfactorily completed assignments, and met other performance criteria communicated at the start of the term. Reporting requirements include bi-weekly timesheets, accomplishment tracking, and quarterly reporting.
