Driver Rehabilitation Specialist -Commerce-Rehabilitation Services-Putnam

• Within 6 months of hire, work with a wide variety of consumers with disabilities and develop an understanding of a wide variety of physical, mental, visual and emotional disabilities.
• Under the direction of the Bioptic Driving Specialist, provide classroom and behind the wheel instruction for low vision and Bioptic consumers; travel statewide and overnight to provide driving evaluations, behind the wheel training, vehicle modification evaluations, and prescriptive adaptive equipment recommendations.
• Serve as a Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist (CDRS) and provide clinical supervision to Driver Rehabilitation Specialist 1 and Driver Rehabilitation Specialist 2.
• Produce timely, accurate, detailed professional reports and stay current on trends and issues in driver rehabilitation through self-research and training (e.g., attending ADED conferences).
• Keep abreast of vehicle modification issues, including updates from NHTSA, the WV Division of Motor Vehicles and equipment vendors, and current Bioptic and Low Vision driving laws; maintain good working relationships with adaptive equipment vendors, the WV DMV, field counselors and other entities involved in the client’s progress toward the driving goal.
• Adhere to the State of WV travel, expense, and related policies; present to community groups about our services; review quotes and participate in agency projects; perform other duties as assigned.
• This is a year-round position with extensive statewide and overnight travel; certification requirements to be a Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist are included in the qualifications.

• Must have one of the following degrees: an associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a major in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Language Pathology, Nursing, Kinesiotherapy, Therapeutic Recreational Therapy, or Exercise Physiology; OR a bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Vocational Rehabilitation, Health and Physical Education, Counseling, Psychology, Special Education, Education, or Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement.
• Must be a current active Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist (CDRS) in good standing with the Association for Driver Rehabilitation Specialist (ADED).
• The individual’s driving record will be obtained; must have a valid WV driver’s license and pass an extensive background check; must be able to pass routine drug and alcohol screenings.
• Must be able to maintain a valid driver’s license and meet required certifications and travel requirements.

This position requires a valid driver’s license and maintaining a clean driving record; the selected applicant will be subject to routine drug and alcohol screenings.
