Nature of WorkThe Temporary Perinatal Hepatitis C Surveillance Nurse will provide clinical expertise to enhance the identification of pregnant individuals and children exposed to hepatitis C, ensuring they are connected to services that improve their health outcomes.
ResponsibilitiesKey duties of this position include:
- Conducting medical record abstraction for perinatal hepatitis C cases.
- Reviewing infectious disease reports to determine the infection status of birth parents and exposed infants/children.
- Providing educational materials and updated guidance to healthcare providers working with pregnant, postpartum individuals, and children.
- Utilizing the infectious disease surveillance system to document case notes and update information supporting medical record/chart abstraction.
- Contacting healthcare providers to discuss test results and appropriate testing resources.
- Participating in CDC jurisdictional calls.
- Referring infants and children with hepatitis C to the Office of Maternal, Child, and Family Health (OMCFH).
- Traveling to birth facilities as needed.
Training: Baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited four-year college or university and two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as a registered professional nurse.
OR
Successful completion of an associate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university or a diploma nursing program and three years of experience as a registered professional nurse.
OR
Professional certification from a recognized national nursing certifying organization as a nurse or nurse practitioner in the area of assignment plus two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as a registered professional nurse.
OR
Successful completion of an associate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university or a diploma nursing program; plus baccalaureate degree in the health sciences or behavioral sciences and two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in nursing.
OR
Master's degree in nursing from an accredited four-year college or university.
Special Requirement: Current West Virginia license or temporary permit to practice as a registered professional nurse.
