Overview

CTL Engineering is hiring Traffic Engineers (all levels – EI, P.E./PTOE, Sr-level P.E./PM). We are seeking candidates for all career levels:
New grad/entry level, Mid-career, and Senior-level P.E. or PTOE/Project Manager.

CTL Engineering is an award-winning, full-service consulting engineering firm with 15 locations across OH, IN, WV, KY, NC, SC, and VA, with a rich history of 97 years in business. We provide civil/site design and land surveying, environmental, geotechnical, construction administration & inspection, accident reconstruction, roofing/building envelope, A/V system design, troubleshooting & installation, transportation design (bridge/roadway), and specialized testing services to the construction industry.

We are looking for Traffic Engineers who will be involved in the full spectrum of operations and maintenance of traffic engineering work—from conception through completion.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare signing, striping, temporary traffic control, signal, lighting and Intelligent Transportation construction plans and specifications to ensure compliance with standards and project schedule.
  • Provide technical assistance to construction inspectors in the field to verify construction conforms to WVDOH traffic specifications/plans.
  • Create, update, and archive as-built plans.
  • Develop and implement traffic signal timing parameters in accordance with WVDOH standards.
  • Perform operational and maintenance checks to ensure the signal functions correctly.
  • Review construction plans for accuracy and provide comments to other functional areas.
  • Gather data such as sight distance, safety, no passing, infrastructure inventory, Before/After, crash, etc. to complete special studies.
  • Analyze traffic data for reporting, planning, and study purposes.
  • Update and maintain crash information/databases and create detailed crash studies using LRS and GIS software.
  • Assist with the analysis, scheduling, oversight, identification, and inspection of marking utility locations.
  • Respond to customer inquiries/request by translating technical information into responses easily understood by the general public.
  • Prepare signal, signing and pavement marking work orders for traffic modifications performed by maintenance within set deadlines.
  • Assist with implementing traffic control plans in the field.
  • Perform field review of operational conditions of electrical systems to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Conduct field reviews to ensure lighting, signing, and striping (permanent and temporary) are implemented and conform to work orders, project objectives, and WVDOH specifications.
Knowledge,

Skills And Abilities
  • Thorough understanding of WVDOH guidelines re:
    Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Traffic Engineering Manual, etc., as they apply to traffic control and design of traffic construction plans.
  • Knowledge of signing, striping, temporary traffic control, signal, lighting and Intelligent Transportation Systems to ensure safe travel for the public.
  • Experience with Transportation Information System (TIS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software to run detailed reports and prepare diagrams.
  • Experience with construction plans and field inspection practices.
  • Data collection techniques and analysis to gather, interpret and prepare reports.
  • Knowledge of civil and engineering principles, reporting, analysis and management of teams and projects.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and train others and be a team player.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a high level of professionalism with client interaction.
  • Quality-minded and client-focused.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field;
  • Master’s degree (MSCE) preferred but not required;
  • Any level of experience in Traffic Engineering, with a focus on State DOH/DOT projects;
  • Strong knowledge of WVDOH design standards, specifications, and procedures;
  • Proficiency in traffic design software - Civil 3D, Open Road Designer, Synchro, etc.;
  • Familiarity with project management software such as MS Project is a plus;
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills;
