Job Overview
Under close supervision, performs entry‑level Child Support Enforcement work. Through formal classroom training and on‑the‑job training, job assignments are designed to develop familiarity with child support laws, regulations and policies and the programs and services of the Bureau for Child Support Enforcement (BCSE). This position is entry‑level with a training period during which employees perform beginning‑level child support case work, processing cases through location, case development, initial notice to non‑custodial parents regarding obligation and child support enforcement involvement.
Under close supervision, the employee acquires knowledge and abilities leading to the independent management of a caseload in child support enforcement services. This posting is for a Caseworker located in Kanawha County.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Successful completion of a paralegal or legal secretarial training program may substitute for two (2) years of the required training.
- Full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid experience in a legal setting requiring legal research, reading and interpreting laws, preparing legal documents and assisting in case file preparation under the supervision of an attorney.
- Experience in debt collections, credit investigations, criminal investigations, law enforcement, accounting, or auditing.
- Experience as an Economic Service Worker or Family Support Specialist.
- Any combination of the above may substitute for the required training at a rate of one (1) year of experience for every thirty (30) semester hours of training.
- Validity of a driver’s license and availability of a vehicle for continuous use may be required.
- One (1) year of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid professional experience as a Child Support Specialist Trainee may substitute for the required training and experience.
Probationary period is twelve (12) months.
