Salary: $34,500 – $38,500; salary commensurate with training and experience. Full‑time employees are eligible for Public Employee Insurance Agency benefits plus other benefits available to state employees.

Reports To: Claims Manager, Unclaimed Property

Nature of Work

Under direct supervision, this position is responsible for greeting all Unclaimed Property visitors as well as greeting all other visitors that enter the State Treasurer’s Office building. The person in this position determines nature of business and directs callers and visitors to the proper destination. This person may also assist the public or work on simple claims. The role requires the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, holders of abandoned property, and employees to provide effective claims processing.

Job Duties
  • Answers incoming calls and gives information to caller or routes calls or messages to the appropriate individual.
  • Greets visitors, ascertains nature of business, and directs visitors to the appropriate individual.
  • Inputs mail and scans mail into OnBase to interface with KAPS.
  • Provides customer service in the form of responding to telephone calls, assisting walk‑ins, and sending follow‑up letters to the public on claims, as applicable.
  • Acts in the capacity of an entry‑level claim specialist when not performing the main duty of a receptionist, processing and reviewing simple/basic claims in accordance with the Unclaimed Property Guidelines and in compliance with the West Virginia Unclaimed Property Act, as well as any other applicable policies and procedures.
  • May process simple or basic claims, such as low dollar owner (claim type) claims in the KAPS unclaimed property system when received from the state website.
  • Responsible for oversight of the copiers, scanners, and other equipment, requesting maintenance when needed.
  • Assists other staff as needed.
  • Notifies supervisor when potential problems arise.
  • Assists with related special projects, as required.
Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from a standard four‑year high school or equivalent required;
Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school preferred; six months to one year of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Basic understanding of administrative and clerical procedures and systems.
  • Knowledge of general office procedures including typing, filing, and the use of a variety of office equipment.
  • Knowledge of the correct use of English grammar.
  • Knowledge of STO rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Ability to greet the public and work well with others.
  • Ability to use the STO computer systems.
