Position: Office Assistant 2 - Mount Olive Correctional Complex and Jail - Fayette Co.

Nature of Work

Fayette, Clay, Nicholas and Kanawha Counties
Under general supervision, performs full-performance level clerical work. Direct inmate contact. Answers phones and takes messages; performs clerical work for the full function of a department or unit; responsible for maintaining a daily log; creates various forms and documents; takes and delivers messages; maintains accurate records; contacts designated personnel regarding inmates; requisitions and orders supplies. Performs related work as required. Assists in security post as needed.

Pay

and Benefits
  • In accordance with SPB 3088 effective 10/7/23, $5,000 is added to the minimum starting rate of pay for all classifications within a Critical Vacancy Pay Supplemental Facility.
  • Employees in this classification receive an annual base building pay differential of $250 after completing one year of service.
  • If an employee is hired into a Critical Vacancy Pay Facility (CVPF) and leaves the facility, the additional pay differential of $5,000 is removed from their salary, unless they transfer to another CVPF.

Responsibilities
  • Perform full-performance level clerical duties including phone answering, message taking, filing, and document creation.
  • Maintain daily logs and accurate records related to inmate interactions and communications.
  • Requisition and order supplies for the department or unit.
  • Assist in security posts as needed.
  • Maintain direct inmate contact in a professional, respectful manner.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid experience in routine office work.
  • College hours, related business school, or vocational training may be substituted through an established formula for the required experience.
