Accounting Technician 2 – Huttonsville Correctional Center and Jail – Randolph County
Under general supervision, performs entry‑level accounting support duties-Unemployed is responsible for routine posting and adjusting to the general ledger, processing claims and invoices, and reviewing transactions for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. The role also includes responsibility for all inmate monies: preparing deposits daily, issuing checks for inmate money withdrawals, releases, transfers, entering all incoming money orders, and working with thestrcmp rapid‑release and debit‑card system.
The Technician sends daily receipts to units, maintains orderly files for audit, balances accounts daily, and provides weekly and monthly reports. Spreadsheets are maintained to confirm all balances are correct and deducted accurately, including court orders, clerk orders, restitution, child support, etc. Supervisors are updated on any events or errors. The position assists with purchasing and accounts payable as needed and requires one 12‑hour shift per week in security.
Minimum Special Hiring Rate: $35,273
- In accordance with SPB 3088 effective 10/7/23, $5,000 will be added to the minimum starting rate of pay for all classifications within a Critical Vacancy Pay Supplemental Facility.
- Employees in this classification shall receive an annual base building pay differential each fiscal year of $250 after completing one year of service.
- If an employee is hired into a Critical Vacancy Pay Facility (CVPF) and leaves the facility, the additional pay differential of $5,000 shall be removed from their salary unless transferring to another CVPF.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid bookkeeping, accounting or related experience.
- Substitution for experience:
Successful completion of college‑level accounting courses from a regionally accredited institution at a rate of three semesters equals six months of experience, or completion of related business or vocational training may substitute through an established formula.
