For over 25 years, West Locating Service has supported surveyors, builders, land developers, institutional clients, and all types of property owners by providing expert underground utility locating across the Low country and the rest of South Carolina. Our mission: prevent utility strikes, protect people and job sites, and keep construction schedules on track.

About The Job

We are looking for an experienced Utility Locator to join our team. The ideal candidate is a motivated, safety conscious, detail-oriented individual ready to jump in and learn what makes West Locating Service the preferred utility locating company in the Low country. In this field-based role, you will be expected to mark underground utilities accurately, reliably, and efficiently. Prior locating experience is essential to success in this role.

At West Locating Service, our Utility Locators operate independently, working in the field using modern utility locating equipment to solve client problems in real time. Locators base of operations is a company provided vehicle, and our team members enjoy the flexibility and freedom of managing their own schedule.

• Use electromagnetic locating equipment (EM) and ground penetrating radar (GPR) to accurately locate underground utility lines
• Mark and document the location of utilities on a variety of job sites
• Communicate proactively and accurately with clients, and with team leaders
• Complete all daily locates reliably and efficiently
• Follow all safety procedures, and comply with all safety regulations including client site rules

• Minimum 2 years utility locating experience.
• Able to work outdoors in normal Low country weather conditions.
• Reliable, punctual, and professional.
• Self-motivated and comfortable working in a close-knit team environment
• Available to work overtime and weekends, as needed.
• Able to effectively communicate with clients and team members.
• Able to pass drug screen, alcohol screen, and background checks.
• Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
