Peds Cardiac Prep and Recovery – RN II

Job Description SummaryRN will work with pediatric and adult congenital cardiology patients for cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology procedures as well as surgical workups and other sedated cardiac cases in the Cardiac Prep and Recovery Unit. A minimum of 2 years’ experience as an RN with pediatric ICU experience or pediatric procedural preferred. RN will report to the Pediatric Interventional Cardiology and Imaging Manager.
ResponsibilitiesUnder limited supervision, this role is responsible for both pre‑ and post‑anesthesia care of special cardiovascular, EP, and interventional cath procedures on a population ranging from the neonate to the geriatric congenital cardiac patient, as well as sedated studies, clinic visits, and cardiac surgical workups. The role requires strong knowledge of normal and abnormal cardiovascular anatomy and physiology.
Minimum Requirements- Minimum of two years’ experience as an RN with pediatric ICU or step‑down (preferably cardiac) or procedural care nursing.
- Current registered nurse license issued by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification on hire.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 6 months of hire.
- Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred; associate or diploma holders must be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years of hire and complete it within four years.
- One year of work experience as a registered nurse required.
- Experience with pediatric ICU, step‑down, or procedural care preferred.
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
- Proficiency in manual dexterity and fine motor skills for tasks such as taking patient vitals, administering injections, or conducting physical exams.
- Capacity to lift and move patients or medical equipment as needed.
- Visual acuity and color perception to accurately read medical charts, documents, and monitors.
- Auditory ability to effectively communicate with patients and colleagues, as well as to perceive important sounds such as alarms or patient instructions.
- Stamina and resilience to handle the physical and emotional demands of providing patient care, including long shifts and potentially stressful situations.
- Mobility to navigate clinical environments, including moving between patient rooms, offices, and other areas of the facility.
- Compliance with infection control protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
