Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU (CVPICU) night shift position, requiring a SC or Compact RN license and at least 2 years of pediatric cardiac ICU experience.

Responsibilities

• Position is in a 29-bed Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU at a Level I Trauma Center and Teaching Hospital

• Patient population includes children with congenital heart disease and a blend of cardiac surgical and medical diagnoses

• Average daily census is 26 patients

• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:1 or 1:2 based on patient acuity

• Specialized procedures include cardiac surgery, heart transplant, ventricular assist devices (VAD), cardiac catheterization, ECMO/CRRT, and other advanced cardiac therapies

• All beds are monitored and Epic charting is used

• Shifts are 3x12 hours, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM

• Requires four weekend shifts per four-week schedule and participation in a holiday rotation

• Floating within scope to meet facility needs is required

• No on-call requirement

• Care includes post-surgical, medical, and transplant pediatric cardiac patients requiring advanced therapies such as ECMO and ventilatory support

• Unit has a Gold Beacon Award and is a highly regarded referral center for pediatric cardiac surgery

• Team includes RNs, patient care techs, unit secretaries, and support from respiratory therapy, pediatric dietitians, and pharmacists

• Pre-employment online modules must be completed before starting

• Return time off requests must be submitted with application and are subject to unit needs

• Block scheduling may be requested but is not guaranteed

• Travel pairs are not accepted for this assignment

• During hurricane season (June to November), staff may be required to participate in emergency response teams

• Dress code follows standard hospital requirements for ICU settings

Requirements

• Active SC or Multi-State Compact RN license required

• Minimum of 2 years recent pediatric cardiac ICU experience

• Current AHA PALS and BLS certifications required

• ACLS certification (AHA) is preferred

• Cardiovascular and pediatric ICU experience required

• VAD experience highly preferred

• Epic charting experience preferred

• First-time travelers are accepted

• Candidates must live at least 60 miles from the facility for travel pay eligibility

• Previous permanent or PRN staff must be separated from the health system for at least 1 year prior to consideration
