Job Description Summary

The Endoscopy Procedure Registered Nurse II on the Endoscopy Unit reports to the Nurse Manager. The Procedure RN assists with general endoscopy procedures, such as colonoscopy and EGD. Responsibilities include being on call rotation for emergent and urgent therapeutic endoscopy procedures, which includes holidays, nights and some weekends. Responsibilities also include performing instrument inspection, decontamination and disinfection of endoscopes and instruments in compliance with medical center policies and procedures, state, local and federal requirements.

Licensure and Certifications:
Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Physical and Other Requirements:
Ability to perform job functions standing, sitting, walking; ability to climb stairs; ability to work indoors and outdoors in temperature extremes; ability to work from elevated areas; ability to work in confined/cramped spaces; ability to perform various positional and grip activities; ability to lift and carry 50 lbs unassisted; ability to exert up to 50 lbs of force; and vision, hearing and dexterity requirements as described.

Scheduled Work Hours/Shift:
Monday-Friday. 7:30a-6:00p; day off is variable. Rotating nights, weekends and holidays, and call.

Job Summary/Purpose:
Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results.

Minimum Training and Education:
Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date. Refer to policy A141 for more details. A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse required.

One year of GI experience preferred.
