Job Summary / Purpose

Ashley River Tower (ART) 6 East is a 21‑bed surgical acute care unit providing care to patients with a variety of diagnoses. ART 6 East commonly cares for patients admitted on general medicine services, plus specialty services including GI surgery, surgical oncology, vascular surgery and plastic surgery. Additionally, ART 6 East cares for patients admitted on cardiology, CT surgery, hematology/oncology and other services as appropriate based on patient needs.

& Engagement

The nursing staff on ART 6 East is trained to utilize a variety of devices, tools and techniques to assist in the delivery of safe patient care. Our unit offers flexible staffing and scheduling options. We work closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, ancillary staff, the Rapid Response team and the Medical‑Surgical ICU (MSICU) to meet patient needs. Our unit has its own Shared Governance Council and participates in hospital‑wide councils, providing opportunities for career growth and shared decision‑making.

Minimum

Training and Education

• Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred.

• RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree must be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and obtain a BSN within four years of hire. Refer to policy A141 for details.

• Minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse required.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations

• Licensure as an RN by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers or an equivalent (e.g., American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider).

Physical and Mental Requirements

Essential skills include standing, sitting, walking continuously; climbing stairs infrequently; operating in indoor and outdoor temperature extremes; working from elevated areas, confined spaces, and kneeling positions. Physical strength: ability to lift and carry 50 lb. unassisted; lift objects from floor to 36” unassisted; lift from 36” to overhead 25 lb. Willingness to work rotating shifts, overtime as required, and latex‑safe environments. Sensory: 20/40 vision (corrected), hearing acuity, good fine motor control, stress tolerance, and ability to handle stressful situations.
