Overview
Ashley River Tower (ART) perioperative services is located on the fourth floor of the ART building. The ART PACU is a 12-bed unit that provides post-operative care for a diverse population of adult outpatient and inpatient surgeries across multiple service lines, including general, plastics, oncology, cardiac, interventional cardiology, thoracic, vascular, colorectal, bariatric, and robotics. ART PACU operates 24/7 with a nightly closing:
Sunday night from 7:30pm to 7:30am; normal Operating Room hours are 7:00am–7:30pm, Monday–Friday. PACU call coverage is in place Friday PM–Monday AM for add-on cases on weekends. The ART programs are recognized for excellence in cardiac, thoracic, vascular, transplant, general, and GI surgery, and for management of chronic pancreatitis and bariatric surgery. ART PACU focuses on post-operative recovery from anesthesia including ERAS, pain, respiratory status, hemodynamic stability, and prevention of post-operative complications.
The ART PACU team aims to provide high-quality, patient-family centered care. A 7-bed Phase II PACU was recently added to accommodate growth within surgical services at MUSC.

Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: 3–12 hour shifts. Shifts vary based on the needs of the department.
ResponsibilitiesUnder general supervision, the Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other health care team members to achieve desired results.
QualificationsMinimum Training and Education: Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma in nursing are required to enroll in an accredited BSN program within two years and obtain a BSN within four years of hire or reclassification date.
Required Licensure, Certifications, and Registrations: Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers (or equivalent) or American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
