Position: Registered Nurse II - Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU)

Overview

Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal‑directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results.

Work Shift:

Rotating. 5 West Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) is a 23‑bed mixed‑acuity heart and vascular unit. Eight of the patient rooms are dedicated to service‑ICU level patients, including management of Swan‑Ganz catheter, intra‑aortic balloon pump, Impella, ventilated patients, and continuous venovenous hemofiltration (CRRT). The remaining 15 beds serve acute and intermediate level patients. The unit serves as the stepdown unit for Ashley River Tower and is the home unit for surgical oncology and plastic surgery.

Nurse–patient ratios range from 1:2 to 1:4 based on patient acuity.

Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized, goal‑directed patient care to families and patients.
  • Manage a‑lines, lumbar drains, and titrate cardiac drips.
  • Perform invasive cardiovascular monitoring, including Swan‑Ganz catheters, intra‑aortic balloon pumps, and Impella support.
  • Provide care to ventilated patients and manage continuous venovenous hemofiltration.
  • Collaborate with the inter‑professional health care team to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  • Participate in patient safety and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred; RN staff hired on or after July 1 2013 with an associate or diploma degree in nursing must enroll in an accredited BSN program within two years and obtain a BSN within four years of RN hire or reclassification date.
  • Minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse.
  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
