Overview
The Preoperative Assessment Clinic within Perioperative Services supports patients scheduled for surgical and procedural care across multiple MUSC Health locations. The clinic plays a critical role in early risk identification, patient preparedness, and prevention of day-of-surgery delays and cancellations.
Position SummaryTelehealth Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) supports preoperative care delivery through structured, protocol-driven telehealth workflows. Working under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the Telehealth LPN performs standardized patient outreach, data collection, education reinforcement, and task coordination to ensure patients are prepared for surgery and appropriately routed for further clinical review when indicated.
This role is designed to improve access, efficiency, and consistency in preoperative workflows while allowing RNs to focus on higher-acuity clinical decision-making.

Job Summary /PurposeUnder the supervision of a Registered Nurse and Manager, the Telehealth LPN provides protocol-based preoperative support using virtual workflows. This position focuses on standardized patient communication, information gathering, documentation, and coordination activities that support timely surgical readiness and escalation of identified risks to the appropriate clinical team. This role functions primarily in a telehealth environment and may support multiple surgical specialties and locations.
MinimumTraining and Education
Graduate from an accredited Practical Nurse program with six months of patient care experience required. Ability to demonstrate commitment to patient centered care philosophy as evidenced by effective communications skills, professional demeanor, and excellent interpersonal skills. Ability and motivation to articulate and support departmental philosophy of excellent guest relations. Must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Must be computer literate.
RequiredLicensure, Certifications, Registrations
Licensed as an LPN within the state of South Carolina or a compact state. A current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Healthcare Provider.
