MUSCP - Advanced Practice Provider (APP - NP/PA) – Department of Medicine:
Division of Hematology Oncology, Infusion

Supervises the care of patients seen in the Hollings Cancer Center, North Charleston, West Ashley, Health East Cooper, Clements Ferry, and Hospital Drive infusion suites, staffs a rapid access clinic, and participates in rotating weekend and holiday infusion coverage at Hollings Cancer Center.

Schedule

Hours per week: 36-40. Scheduled work hours per shift:
Typical shift is either four (10‑hour) shifts or three (12‑hour) shifts, depending on the location.

Patient Population Focus

Infusion Suite;
Age range 18 years to death.

Required Training and Experience
  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant, or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN.
  • Physician Assistant or APRN (options include AGPNP/ANP for Adult pts (13+), FNP for family).
Preferred Experience
  • Prior hematology oncology APP experience.
Degree of Supervision

Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to that physician.

Licensure, Certifications, Registrations
  • All certifications must be current and completed prior to start date:
    Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • If applicable, DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to first day.
Job Duties
  • Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations.
  • Evaluates and treats on the basis of history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline.
  • Initiates referrals, consults with attending physician or collaborating physician.
  • Documents and bills for direct care provided.
  • Utilizes current research and evidence‑based decision‑making in all clinical practice.
  • Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research.
  • Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.
  • Potential to precept students and facilitate learning of new team members.
  • Maintains licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law.
  • Responsible for providing care to patients with oncology urgent needs and staffs rapid access clinic.
  • Provides coverage in the Hollings Cancer Center, North Charleston, West Ashley, Health East Cooper, and Clements Ferry infusion suites, supervising infusion nurses.
  • Collaborates with ordering physician to manage infusion patients.
  • Coordinates initiation of therapy, reviews labs, and supports physicians ordering, responsible for signing off on all infusion encounters.
  • Receives and triages infusion patient phone calls, responds to routine questions and referrals, etc.
  • Rotating infusion suite coverage on weekends and holidays.
  • Participates in weekly tumor boards and team meetings.
  • Staffs rotating weekend infusion suite at Hollings Cancer Center and one holiday a year.
Physical Requirements

Continuous requirements include standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, reaching, and using both hands and legs. Must be physically qualified for respirator use when required. Must maintain 20/40 vision corrected, work in a latex‑safe environment, and work indoors. Frequently lifts, lowers, pushes, pulls, or carries objects up to 50 lbs unassisted. Work occasionally in dusty or confined spaces.
