3W Interventional Cardiology

3 West Cardiology is a 20-bed acute care nursing unit specializing in the care of Interventional Cardiovascular and general Cardiology patients. We work in close collaboration with the Electrophysiology (EP) team to support seamless, multidisciplinary cardiac care. The unit manages a wide range of cardiac procedures, including left and right heart catheterizations—with sheath pulls performed at the bedside—ablations, and pacemaker and defibrillator insertions.

We are also a dedicated unit for Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) patients and provide pre-operative care for a variety of cardiovascular procedures. In addition to procedural care, we provide comprehensive management of complex cardiac conditions, including advanced heart failure. The unit cares for patients with Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs) and heart transplants, and serves as the secondary unit for the Cardiothoracic (CT) Surgery population.

5E

Cardiac Acute Care

5E is a 19-bed acute care cardiovascular and transplant unit with 1:4 patient ratio. The patient population served includes patients with heart and lung transplants, congestive heart failure, advanced congestive heart failure requiring ionotropic support, congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, rhythm disturbances, AICD management, sudden cardiac death, cardiac conduction abnormalities, pacemaker management, LVADs (ventricular assist devices), interventional valve replacement, pulmonary hypertension, and pulmonary artery management devices.

In addition, the patient population also includes those who have received vascular surgical procedures.

4E Cardiothoracic Surgery Intermediate Care Unit

4 East is a 17-bed mixed acuity Cardiothoracic Surgery Intermediate Care Unit. 4 East cares for all cardiothoracic patients both pre and post cardiac and thoracic surgery. These surgeries include but are not limited to heart transplants, lung transplants, left ventricular assist devices, coronary artery bypass grafts (CABGs), valve replacements, lobectomies, esophagectomies, and thoracotomies. The stepdown patients are staffed 1:3 while the medical-surgical patients are staffed 1:4.

They have an active Shared Governance council that is committed to the success of the unit and works hard to ensure the best quality of patient care is provided.
