Position Overview
The Director of Donor Relations is responsible for leading Charleston Habitat for Humanity’s efforts to cultivate, steward, and retain existing donors through meaningful engagement, thoughtful recognition, and transparent reporting. This position ensures CHFH donors feel valued, informed, and connected to the Habitat mission, ultimately strengthening and advancing the organization’s fundraising goals.
Responsibilities- Donor Stewardship & Engagement
Design and implement a comprehensive donor stewardship strategy for individual, corporate, and foundation donors in collaboration with the Director of Development.
Oversee donor recognition programs, ensuring timely, personalized, and mission-aligned acknowledgment.
Develop stewardship plans for major donors in partnership with the Director of Development and the Leadership Team. - Impact Reporting & Communications
Assist in the creation of impact reports, stewardship updates, and special communications that demonstrate the outcomes of philanthropic support.
Collaborate with other team members to gather stories, data, and metrics that illustrate mission impact.
Ensure stewardship messaging is accurate, compelling, and aligned with the Habitat mission and values. - Donor Experience & Retention
Monitor donor retention and engagement metrics in Charity Proud and analyze the data to improve stewardship practices and donor satisfaction.
Continuously assess and enhance the donor journey across touchpoints. - Events and Recognition
Oversee stewardship-related events such as donor briefings and recognition events.
Ensure stewardship-related events are mission-focused, well-executed, and tailored to donor interests.
Support the Development Team in the execution of all CHFH special events. - Systems and Compliance
Maintain accurate and timely stewardship touchpoint records in Charity Proud, including recognition preferences, restrictions, and reporting requirements.
Ensure compliance with donor intent, gift agreements, and reporting deadlines. - Leadership and Collaboration
Manage and mentor stewardship volunteers as applicable.
Work closely with all members of the Charleston Habitat Team to ensure coordinated donor engagement.
Serve as a thought leader on best practices in donor stewardship across the organization.
- Education:
Bachelor’s Degree - Years of Related
Experience:
3-5 Years in non-profit development and donor stewardship - Superb verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Superior relationship-building skills
- Expertise with Donor Database Management Software
- Aptitude working collaboratively with a team to accomplish organizational goals
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of and passion for Habitat for Humanity’s mission
- Experience in developing major giving programs
- Experience working with a Board of Directors
- Experience with Charity Proud
- Comfortable working in a faith-based environment aligned with Habitat for Humanity’s values
- Discretion, professionalism, and donor-centered mindset
- Experience in Public Speaking
