Summary
Summary Supplement existing outreach for the BCDCOG as well as the Low country Rapid Transit (LCRT) project and Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Study. Assists in the day-to-day operations of the Marketing Department. Ensures brand message is consistent, timely, and relevant.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assist in implementing communications strategies, programs, plans, and campaigns.
- Assist with creating company literature and other forms of communication.
- Proofread, edit, and revise communication.
- Serves as project manager for community and small business outreach in the Low country Rapid Transit and TOD Study Corridor.
- Assist with scheduling and talent coordination for video/photo shoots.
- Assist Marketing Department with daily operations and projects as needed, including promoting new services, marketing current services, promoting niche marketed services, and all aspects of electronic media.
- Develops summaries for all outreach efforts undertaken
- Assist with daily content and layout management of company web pages.
- Assist with implementing social media strategies and performing social media community management duties.
- Assist with coordinating and organizing promotional events such as press conferences, interviews, exhibitions, public meetings/appearances, tours and visits.
- Document presence of the company at events, conferences, and speaking engagements.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience- Bachelors’ degree in marketing, public relations or related field preferred.
- Two years marketing, public relations or project coordination and/or administrative experience preferred.
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite required.
- Experience using Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
- Experience using CRM software preferred.

Scope of WorkThe purpose of this position is to supplement existing outreach for the Low country Rapid Transit (LCRT) project and Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Study. The position will develop and implement meaningful, community-based engagement strategies for the neighborhoods along the corridor, with specific focus on Environmental Justice, as well as small and locally owned businesses in the area in order to build and maintain a favorable public image of the project in the community and among stakeholders.
This position will function as a staff member at the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments in Charleston, S.C. to help develop, plan and direct an effective, comprehensive public relations program and help oversee execution of a marketing campaign for the project.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Represent BCDCOG as a community liaison to identify areas of concern and facilitate open and inclusive dialogue. This task requires ability to identify key community leaders/influencers and community events, along with coordination and documentation of project participation at events.
- Develop outreach strategies and activities designed to educate residents and key influencers about the LCRT project and TOD study. Example tasks include, but are not limited to: setting up and manning informational tables in churches; developing key community members and leaders call sheets.
- Provide presentations and participate at neighborhood meetings, pop-up events, community events, etc. on behalf of LCRT /TOD study. This duty requires demonstrated public speaking and presentation skills.
- Provide expertise in the design and implementation of equity strategies, including Environmental Justice under NEPA, to offer an opportunity for potentially affected minority populations, low income populations, and other interested community members and organizations to inform the decision-making process.
