Job OverviewPrimary purpose of the position is to build production aids (carts, racks, tool holders, basic tools, etc.) to assist manufacturing operations in Body, Paint, and Assembly Shops. Support internal customers by designing and building equipment needed to meet production goals. Focus on identifying and improving processes and using MPS (Lean) principles to implement successful results.
Responsibilities- Design & build manufacturing aids and equipment (e.g. carts, racks, jigs/fixtures, tool holders, etc.)
- Work with internal customers, engineers, MPS experts to design equipment to fulfill project requests
- Use data to objectively evaluate situations and build solutions which will result in measurable improvements
- Operate powered tools and equipment and computerized machines to produce project components
- Identify and reduce/eliminate manufacturing process wastes
- Provide support needed to enable team members to self-implement projects
- Be an “ambassador” for MPS and continuous improvement in the plant
- Work on time‑sensitive projects to support customer goals
- Support 5S, continuous improvement process (CIP), standardization initiatives
- Maintain flexibility to support changes in customer requests and project planning
- Periodically adjust work schedule to install projects during non‑production times (including after hours, weekends)
- Participate in regularly scheduled team meetings
- Perform other duties as assigned
- High School Diploma or GED
- Required:
2+ years of relevant manufacturing experience; OR Relevant certificate and 1+ years of relevant experience - Preferred: 3+ years of relevant experience; OR Relevant certificate and 2+ years of relevant experience
- Able to perform the essential functions of the job
- Self‑motivated and self‑directed
- Experience working with hand tools is required
- Experience using powered tools and equipment
- Experience working with various materials; aluminum, plastics, steel, wood, etc.
- Experience with Mercedes‑Benz Production System or equivalent Lean system
- Conventional machining and/or welding experience preferred
- Prefer experience in automotive manufacturing
- Production process orientation and understanding
- Familiarity with the Metric system
