Assistant General Counsel
Join the ARCO a Family of Construction Companies as an Assistant General Counsel in our Charleston, SC office.
ABOUT YOUAre you a service‑mindful attorney with strong technical expertise in construction and contract drafting and negotiating? Do you want to better understand business considerations that inform risk management decisions? If yes, this long‑term opportunity is for you.
A DAY IN THE LIFE- Collaborate closely with the legal team across the United States to implement enterprise‑wide risk management approaches.
- Collaborate with project managers and leaders to understand business objectives during agreement negotiations.
- Advise safety, finance, IT, and HR teams.
- Review, draft, and negotiate construction and other contracts with minimal supervision.
- Manage documentation related to construction contracts and day‑to‑day project operations.
- Prepare and present training to non‑legal business operators on industry issues.
- Assess and mitigate ARCO’s risk and provide suggestions to General Counsel.
- Maintain and grow relationships with vendors and title companies.
- Assist Operations and Leadership in problem solving and risk management.
- Manage communications and deliverables in a deadline‑driven environment.
- Work well with, and can efficiently direct, shared paralegal support.
- Licensed Attorney with 7+ years practicing construction law.
- Experience working with construction organizations or firms preferred.
- Strong transactional practice experience or combination of transactional and construction litigation/claims management.
- Experience leading negotiations of construction contracts or dispute resolution with sophisticated counter parties.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Familiarity with insurance in the construction industry preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders.
- Flexible; excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to lead and follow as needed.
- Desire to work as part of a highly collaborative legal team.
- Active listener, proactive leadership approach, collaborative and communicative.
- Enjoy working in a fast‑paced, growth‑oriented business environment.
- Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
