Database Service; DBaaS Engineer

Overview

Core4ce is seeking a Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) Engineer responsible for building, maintaining, and optimizing Microsoft SQL Server clusters and infrastructure critical for hosting SQL services for customer-managed databases. This role ensures secure, compliant, and high-performing database services that align with the Defense Health Agency (DHA) mission.

• Design, build, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server clusters to support enterprise applications.
• Perform queries, troubleshooting, and diagnostics on hosted customer databases.
• Configure and deliver DBaaS offerings per Service Level Agreements (SLA), including:
• Windows and Microsoft SQL Server/cluster management
• Microsoft SQL instance management with role-based access control
• Monitoring using Red Gate SQL Monitor
• Microsoft SQL licensing management
• Encryption of hosted data
• Conduct performance tuning to optimize database availability and speed.
• Manage database recovery and restoration as needed to support business continuity.
• Collaborate with engineering, platform, and backup/storage teams to align services with mission requirements.

This position is designed to be flexible, with responsibilities evolving to meet business needs and enable individual growth.

• Active DoD Secret clearance (or ability to obtain and maintain).
• 10+ years of professional experience in Microsoft SQL Server administration and database engineering.
• Hands-on expertise with Microsoft SQL Server 2016 and 2019, including clustering and high availability.
• Strong knowledge of Windows Server administration in support of Microsoft SQL infrastructure.
• Experience with Red Gate SQL Monitor and SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex database issues and optimize performance.
• Strong knowledge of database encryption, security, and recovery methods.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work across technical teams and customer stakeholders.
• At least one relevant industry certification such as Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator or Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP).

• At least one relevant industry certification such as Microsoft Certified:
  Azure Database Administrator Associate or a Microsoft SQL Server database certification.
• Experience with cloud-hosted SQL solutions, such as Microsoft Azure SQL and Amazon Web Services Relational Database Service (AWS RDS), and hybrid integrations.
• Pior experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) or DHA enterprise healthcare IT programs.
• Familiarity with Risk Management Framework (RMF) compliance and database-specific Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIGs).
