Break Point Labs is seeking a motivated and experienced UNIX System Administrator to take on a critical role in managing and maintaining Linux‑Based systems and servers. This Team Member will be instrumental in ensuring the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of organizational information systems. The ideal candidate will be a proficient communicator with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. They will apply these stills daily to proactively identify, clearly communicate, and efficiently resolve complex technical issues.
The System Administrator will provide end‑user support and perform sustainment tasks to maintain operational readiness and system availability.
Responsibilities Include:
- Install, configure, and maintain Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS, or similar) servers and components.
- Administer Microsoft Active Directory (AD) integration for Linux systems, alongside managing critical network services such as DNS and DHCP.
- Maintain robust security posture through meticulous management of Group Policy Objects (GPOs) and detailed oversight of Linux user/group creation, permission management, and access controls.
- Implement and oversee backup, recovery, and disaster recovery (DR) solutions to ensure minimal downtime and data loss in the event of an outage or catastrophic event.
- Apply OS patches and updates regularly; maintain administrative tools and utilities.
- Continuously monitor system performance and provide statistics and reports on system health, availability, and capacity planning to inform management decisions.
- Develop, maintain, and enforce detailed installation, configuration, and maintenance procedures to ensure consistency, repeatability, and compliance across all managed systems.
- Manage and verify security solutions, including firewalls, antivirus/endpoint protection, and intrusion detection systems.
- Execute system upgrades, configuration changes, and file archival/purging as required.
- Collaborate with network, application, and database teams to ensure system reliability, availability, and scalability.
- Maintain detailed and up‑to‑date documentation of all system configurations, standard operating procedures, and service records.
- Provide troubleshooting and rapid resolution of technical issues to minimize impact on end‑users and organizational operations.
- Up to 25% travel (including international travel) may be required.
- Be available to provide on‑call after‑hours support on a rotating schedule to address critical incidents or needs that occur outside of standard business hours.
- Proficiency in Linux administration (RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS)
- Experience with Active Directory and Linux user/group management
- Knowledge of networking protocols and services (TCP/IP,DNS, DHCP, SMTP, HTTP/S)
- Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper‑V, KVM)
- Experience with scripting and automation (Power Shell, Bash, Python)
- Knowledge of system hardening and compliance to meet DoD security requirements
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills
- Experience with cloud services (AWS, Azure) and hybrid environments is preferred
- Familiarity with database management (e.g., SQL Server, MySQL, Postgre
SQL) - Experience with configuration management and automation tools (Ansible, SCCM, Puppet, Chef) strongly preferred
- Familiarity with ITIL processes and cybersecurity best practices preferred
Linux/Unix‑based certification is strongly preferred. Must have IAT-II certification and CND Analyst/Auditor
