Job Description
Job Purpose:
Full time APRN/PA to provide evidence-based outpatient treatment for a wide variety of both sleep, mood and anxiety disorders. This position requires a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant who will see patients, supervise trainees, coordinate patient care, and participate in program activities (e.g., journal clubs, case conferences).
Opportunities are available to be involved in clinical research, as well as teaching of medical students, psychology interns, postdoctoral fellows, and psychiatric fellows. This position will collaborate within a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, psychiatrists, pulmonologists, trainees, social workers and the clinicians, and scientists. A provider with expertise in medication management is highly desirable.
Fair Labor Standards Act Status: Salaried - Exempt
Hours Per Week: 40
Scheduled Work Hours/Shifts: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm

Patient Population Age Range: 13-Death
Required Minimum Training
Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant. Or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, as identified below.

- AGPNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care NP or Adult NP):
Adult pts (13 years to death), stable chronic disease state management or primary care setting. - FNP (Family Nurse Practitioner): population foci across the life span
- PMHNP (Psychiatric Mental Health NP): (All ages) population foci may be adult only or across the lifespan (must check educational background) care of the psychiatric patient.
Preferred Experience
Minimum of one year of mental health provider experience as an APP.
Degree of Supervision
Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to this physician.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations
Currently licensed (or eligible) in the state of South Carolina as a Physician Assistant by the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners or as an PMHNP with the SC Board of Nursing.
Requires certification in Basic Life Support (BLS). If BLS is not current, provider must enroll and have received certificate by start date. DHEC and DEA license applications must be submitted prior to first day.
Job Duties
Provides direct care to patients through the following activities:
- Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations.
- Evaluates and treats based on history, mental status examination, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline.
- Initiates referrals to other health care provides, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician, when appropriate.
- Documents and bills for direct care provided.
- Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice
- Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research, when appropriate.
- Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
- Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.
