Overview

The Med Tech provides quality care and assistance with activities of daily living for residents, and assists with the administration of prescribed medications within the established scope of practice. Must maintain a working knowledge of all policies and procedures pertaining to the position.

Responsibilities
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living and care needs
  • Assist in planning and conducting activity programs for residents
  • Respond promptly to resident calls for assistance or emergency alerts
  • Perform housekeeping duties as directed by supervisor (e.g., making beds, cleaning resident areas)
  • Check on residents and report care concerns or illness to appropriate individuals (e.g., HCD, RN/LPN, ED)
  • Communicate verbally and in writing to report resident status, upcoming community information, appointments, admissions, and transfers
  • Assist new residents with move-in transition and provide emotional support
  • Attend all medication trainings and complete medication cart audits as assigned
  • Pass all medication administration observations
  • Communicate all medication needs to the HCD and document in the Daily Log
  • Re-order medications, fax to the pharmacy, and notify resident family/RP as needed; document in the Daily Log
  • Document all medication administration on the EMAR/MAR and report exceptions to the HCD
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Must have High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have completed the Medication Aide Course
  • Must satisfactorily pass 2 medication observations annually
  • Must satisfactorily pass all medication cart audits assigned
  • Must attend 4 additional hours of medication administration education annually
  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Must be organized and able to work well with all levels of personnel
  • Must be a contributing member of the nursing team and follow the instruction of supervisor
  • Must be polite and considerate of residents, visitors, and co-workers at all times
  • Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs, and push or carry 25 lbs
  • Must be able to safely lift and transfer residents while maintaining proper body mechanics
  • Must be in designated uniform during working hours, including name badge
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified, or willing to become certified within 60 days of hire
  • Must be able to represent the community in a positive and professional manner
  • Must attend and complete all required in-services and staff meetings
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and holidays
  • Must be able to remain calm and competent during emergencies
