Interventional radiologic technologist assists physicians with image guided minimally invasive procedures in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Providing the highest quality of care, they treat an ever-widening range of conditions inside the body from outside the body by inserting various small instruments or tools, such as catheters or wires, with the use of various x-ray and imaging techniques (i.e., CT scanners, MRI scanners, ultrasound scanners).
The technologist is responsible for maintaining sterile technique, operation of equipment, quality assurance of imaging and compassionate patient care. Our Interventional Radiology department is at the forefront of innovation and new technologies, offering an alternative to the surgical treatment of many conditions and can eliminate the need for hospitalization, in some cases.

Job Description
Hours Per Week: 40Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: Day Shift: Rotating 4-10 hour shifts per week (730a-6p); minimal call requirement
The Vascular Interventional Radiology (VIR) Technologist reports directly to the Vascular and Interventional Radiology Technologist Supervisor and indirectly to the Operations Manager. The VIR Technologist works alongside Interventional Radiologists and RNs to assist in the performance of diagnostic angiographic procedures as well as complex vascular and nonvascular interventional and therapeutic procedures.He/she is responsible for the care of patients, obtaining all equipment needed for a procedure, positioning and imaging patients, resolving equipment issues, and demonstrating knowledge of human anatomy, radiation safety, interventional supplies, and equipment operation to include fluoroscopy, US, and ancillary therapeutic devices. The VIR technologist must prepare, administer, and document contrast given throughout procedure. VIR Technologists are responsible for corroborating a patient's clinical history with procedure and ensuring information is documented and available for use by clinician.
Using their patient care skills, the VIR Technologist must provide good communication, patient assessment, and patient monitoring. The VIR technologist is responsible for post processing digital data for display or hard copy records, ensuring technical quality and proper identification is evident. The VIR technologist will uphold the standards set by MUSC for behavior:
Compassion, Teamwork, Diversity, Accountability, and Innovation. VIR Technologists will also agree to, and maintain, the department specified requirements outlined by the RT General Expectations. VIR Technologist will be responsible for staying up to date on departmental changes and communications via email, Teams, and monthly meetings. Assigned shift may vary due to department growth.
Additional Job Description
Graduation from an accredited school of radiologic technology and minimum 1 year of experience working independently in radiology. ?Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Licensure from the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association is required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Proactively maintains and renews ARRT, state license, BLS, PPD, respirator fit test, and POC training.
