OverviewThe Unit Secretary on the PICU Unit reports to the Nurse Manager and is accountable for clerical work related to the nurse’s station. Responsibilities include serving in the receptionist role at the nursing station, handling incoming and outgoing communications, processing physician’s orders, and maintaining charts, records, supplies, and equipment. The Unit Secretary accurately performs computer related tasks.
Responsibilities- Serve as receptionist at the nursing station and manage communications.
- Process physician orders and maintain patient charts and records.
- Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of supplies and equipment.
- Perform computer related clerical tasks.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Basic keyboarding skills required; medical terminology preferred.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 2 weeks of hire and must be maintained thereafter; valid certification must be from AHA or Red Cross.
- Ability to perform job functions while standing, walking, and sitting (frequent).
- Ability to work indoors and in confined spaces (continuous).
- Ability to climb stairs, work from elevated areas, and perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements (frequent).
- Ability to use both hands and arms, maintain finger dexterity, and lift/carry ≤ 15 lbs unassisted (infrequent).
- Visibility and hearing acuity, corrected if needed (continuous).
- Ability to perform gross motor functions and maintain tactile and olfactory sensory functions (frequent).
- Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use as required (continuous).
Works full-time, 36 scheduled weekly hours. Employee; regular worker sub‑type. Pay rate: hourly, health‑20 pay grade.
