Minimum Training And EducationPatient Care Technician I:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Patient Care Technician II:
High school diploma/GED and ONE of the following requirements must be met.
- Associate or Bachelor's degree
- At least 1 year work experience in a .6 FTE PCT I position at MUSC CHS
- 1 year of experience in a healthcare facility
- Active enrollment in nursing school with completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an accredited institution
- Active enrollment in a healthcare related field from an accredited institution
- Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited institution
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain Current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

To transfer a 100 lb. patient that cannot assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand.
Maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. See and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. Match or discriminate between colors. Determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. Good peripheral vision capabilities. Maintain hearing acuity, with correction. Gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. Deal effectively with stressful situations. Work rotating shifts. Work overtime as required.
Work in a latex safe environment. Maintain tactile sensory functions. Maintain good olfactory sensory function (Selected Positions). Be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required…
