Job Description Summary
The research specialist will work under general supervision by the PI and other senior lab staff, and will be part of a basic science research laboratory that focuses on the genetics, cell biology, and molecular pathways that are involved in heart pathology and regeneration. The selected individual will provide technical support for laboratory experiments and assays, and as desired and able, will be responsible for a supervised but independent research project.
The position requires motivated, well‑organized individuals with excellent communication and record‑keeping skills.

Minimum Qualifications
- A high school diploma and two years work experience in a clinical or research setting; or a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or other natural, life or health care science may substitute for the two years required experience.
- Basic competence with standard software (Excel, Word) expected.
- Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology or other life or health science. - Prior laboratory experience in molecular biology, protein biochemistry, cell biology, tissue culture and/or related techniques.
- Perform a range of molecular biology laboratory techniques, under supervision by the PI and other lab staff, including DNA isolation, polymerase chain reaction, and agarose gel electrophoresis. (Essential 35%)
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date laboratory records. (Essential 20%)
- Organize and communicate experimental results. (Essential 20%)
- Perform basic lab maintenance including making solutions and organizing laboratory supplies and equipment. (Essential 25%)
Continuous 6–8 hours per shift:
Ability to perform job functions in an upright position, bend, twist, use both hands/arms, reach, lift materials up to 20 lbs, maintain vision, etc. Frequent 2–6 hours per shift:
Ability to perform job functions while seated, walk, lift and carry moderate loads, operate equipment, maintain other physical tasks. Infrequent 0–2 hours per shift:
Ability to climb using step stool, work in confined spaces, lift 25–30 lbs jugs, etc. Also ability to work rotating shifts, overtime, learn new processes and equipment.
