MUSC Health is seeking a skilled Patient Care Technician to support our Bone Marrow Transplant team.

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) reports to the Nurse Manager and, under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, performs multi‑skilled activities to support a decentralized patient‑centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes.

The PCT works alongside the clinical care team in providing quality and safe patient‑centered care for patients during their clinic visit. Regular duties include: triaging patient (vital signs, completing health screenings, obtaining height/weight), rooming patient, cleaning rooms, assisting nurses with obtaining ECGs and other procedures. Opportunity, if desired, to work alongside providers assisting in running a clinic.

• At least 1 year of work experience in a .6 FT E PCT I position at MUSC CHS or 1 year of patient care work experience in a health care facility; or a college degree; or active enrollment in nursing school with completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an accredited institution; or active enrollment in a healthcare‑related field from an accredited institution; or a Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant, or equivalent training.

• Credentials:
Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.

Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors and outdoors, from elevated areas, in confined/cramped spaces, kneeling positions, bending at the waist, twisting at the waist, squatting, pinching operations, gross motor activities with fingers and hands, firm grasping, fine manipulation, reaching overhead, repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, using both legs, maintaining balance and coordination, reaching in all directions, lifting and carrying 50 lbs.

unassisted or from floor up to 36 inches unassisted, lifting from 36″ to overhead 25 lbs., and exerting up to 50 lbs. of force. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance, match or discriminate between colors, determine distance/relationship between objects, depth perception, peripheral vision.

Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations. Ability to work rotating shifts, overtime as required, in a latex‑safe environment, maintain tactile sensory functions, good olfactory sensory function (selected positions), qualify physically for respirator use (selected positions).
