Patient Care Technician - Surgery Trauma & Burn ICU
Job Summary:
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) reports to the Nurse Manager and performs a multi‑skilled set of activities to support a decentralized, patient‑centered approach to patient care and to achieve desired outcomes. This position requires a 30‑hour week on rotating 12‑hour shifts (2–3 per week, including weekends and holidays). The PCT works in the Surgical Trauma & Burn Intensive Care Unit at Medical University Hospital Authority.
The PCT will assist registered nurses and nursing assistants in delivering direct patient care, including but not limited to monitoring vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living, preparing patients for procedures, and performing basic therapeutic interventions to support patient recovery.
Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent (PCT I); high‑school diploma/GED and one of the following for PCT II: associate or bachelor’s degree, at least one year of work experience in a PCT I position, one year of experience in a healthcare facility, active enrollment in nursing school (Nursing Fundamentals) or a healthcare‑related field, certified nursing assistant or certified medical assistant certification from an accredited institution.
- Experience and knowledge of inpatient trauma and burn unit care.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required within two weeks of hire and must be maintained as a current BLS certification. BLS can be obtained from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, climb stairs, and lift and carry up to 50 lbs. (Unassisted, from the floor or carrying a patient.)
- Ability to perform fine and gross motor tasks, work in confined and elevated areas, and work rotating shifts.
