Patient Care Technician – SJCH Peds 9 Acute Care

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) reports to the Nurse Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the PCT performs multi‑skilled activities to support a decentralized patient‑centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Perform multi‑skilled activities under RN supervision to support patient‑centered care.
- Maintain patient comfort and assist with daily living activities.
- Support nursing staff with documentation, equipment management, and patient transport.
- Hours per week: 36 (3 x 12‑hour rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays)
- Shift type:
Rotating (United States of America) - Pay:
Hourly, Health‑21 pay grade, BLS required within 2 weeks of hire and thereafter maintained.
Patient Care Technician I:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Patient Care Technician II:
High school diploma/GED plus one of the following:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree
- At least 1 year work experience in a 0.6
FTE PCT I position at MUSC CHS - 1 year of experience in a healthcare facility
- Active enrollment in nursing school with completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an accredited institution
- Active enrollment in a healthcare related field from an accredited institution
- Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited institution
Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
Physical RequirementsAbility to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors and outdoors, from elevated areas, confined spaces, kneeling positions, bending at waist, twisting at waist, squatting, pinching operations, gross motor activities with fingers and hands, firm grasping, fine manipulation, reaching overhead, repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows/shoulders. Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted; lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from 36 inches;
lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs.; exert up to 50 lbs. of force. Vision and hearing acuity: 20/40 corrected in one or both eyes, good peripheral vision, hearing acuity with correction. Ability to work rotating shifts, overtime, latex safe environment, and maintain tactile and olfactory sensory functions; respirator qualification where applicable.
