Job Description Summary
The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences is hiring a Program Coordinator II for the Brain Stimulation Laboratory. This role involves managing, coordinating, planning and implementing research protocols across multiple studies. The Coordinator will lead a team of researchers in day‑to‑day operations, including recruitment, testing, sample selections, data recording, and the operation of complex non‑invasive brain stimulation protocols such as MRI, EEG, TMS, eye‑tracking, and fNIRS in human populations (PTSD, addiction, stroke, dementia, depression, and suicide risk).
Additional responsibilities include regulatory paperwork, IRB communication, sponsor liaison, and career development mentoring for personnel pursuing careers in medicine, neuroscience, psychology, or related fields.
- 30%:
Manage, oversee, and train a team of research coordinators across multiple studies; maintain current knowledge of relevant studies; schedule complex, multi‑step procedures; coordinate with multiple departments, physicians, and study sponsors; participate in feasibility and logistical planning for new and ongoing studies. - 30%:
Serve as an expert in acquisition and execution of studies using MRI, EEG, TMS, eye‑tracking, fNIRS, behavioral, diagnostic, physiological, and other complex data types; coordinate data management and collection to meet protocol requirements and compliance. - 20%:
Create and maintain accurate and comprehensive records as required by FDA, IRB, study sponsors, and Good Clinical Practice Guidelines; coordinate reporting and communications with the IRB and sponsors during monitoring visits and for adverse events, ongoing updates, and other protocol activities from activation to close‑out. - 15%:
Write Informed Consent Forms (ICFs) and complete IRB‑related study maintenance; collaborate with MUSC PIs on protocol writing and study design for investigator‑initiated studies; design and build Red Cap databases as necessary. - 5%:
Participate in MUSC IRB, VA R&D, and/or sponsor‑initiated audits; independently manage study‑specific data, identify discrepancies, and develop corrective action plans; assist with preparation for Data Safety Monitoring Board meetings.
- Master’s degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Exercise Science, or a related health sciences field.
- At least 3 years of prior experience working in a research environment.
- At least 3 years of prior experience administering clinical questionnaires and neuropsychiatric cognitive assessments.
- At least 1 year of prior experience with EEG, fMRI, fNIRS, eye‑tracking, and TMS.
- 1 year experience with combined fMRI‑EEG‑TMS and closed‑loop EEG‑rTMS multimodality systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, MATLAB, R, and SPSS.
- Strong interpersonal skills for promoting participant comfort and sensitivity to potential distress.
A bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant program experience.
Physical RequirementsContinuous: 6‑8 hours per shift;
Ability to perform job functions in an upright position, indoors, and maintain tactile sensory functions. Frequent: 2‑6 hours per shift;
Ability to perform job functions seated and walking/mobile, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows/shoulders, reach in all directions, protect peripheral vision, maintain hearing acuity, and use both hands/arms. Infrequent: 0‑2 hours per shift;
Ability to work outdoors in all weather, confined spaces, kneel, squat, pinching operations, lift/carry up to 15 lbs., lower objects up to 15 lbs. from height, and push/pull up to 15 lbs.
