Job Description Summary
We are seeking a candidate who will become part of a team that investigates cardiovascular development and disease. The candidate will work with the PI, other lab personnel including undergraduate researchers, to assist in our ongoing efforts to pursue the origins of cardiac valve and vascular diseases. Since we utilize mouse models, the candidate will be trained to follow established protocols and guidelines when maintaining, genotyping and breeding several genetically altered mouse models.
The candidate will perform general molecular biology techniques as well as work together with the lab manager and PI to troubleshoot and establish novel assays that involve primary cells and tissue. This position also involves analysis of data and preparation of data for figures in presentations and manuscripts. Meticulous record keeping is essential to the duties of the candidate.

Work Shift—
Job Duties- 30% – Maintain mouse colony and perform experimental and routine procedures using established approvals and protocols. Maintain records of mouse colonies in accordance with the protocol guidelines with supervision of the PI.
- 25% – Trained and perform immunohistochemistry and confocal microscopy to analyze cardiovascular anomalies of disease in murine tissues.
- 20% – Perform basic histological procedures from tissue generated from mouse models of cardiac development and disease.
- 15% – Routine lab maintenance, ordering and organization.
- 10% – Analyze experimental results using appropriate software including Excel and Photoshop.
A high school diploma and two years work experience in a clinical or research setting; a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or other natural, life or health care science may be substituted for the two years of required experience.
Physical Requirements- Continuous – 6-8 hours per shift; ability to perform job functions in an upright position, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, fully use both hands/arms, maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or both, match or discriminate colors, hear and recognize alarms, work in darkroom.
- Frequent – 2-6 hours per shift; ability to perform job functions while seated, perform job functions while walking/mobile, climb using step stool, perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements, fully use both legs, reach in all directions, stretch, bend, maneuver heavy equipment on bench tops 50 lbs. or greater, move items/materials from sitting and standing positions.
- Infrequent – 0-2 hours per shift; ability to lift materials up to 20 lbs unassisted, lift 4 liter waste material bottles 30 feet unassisted, lift 25-30 lbs jugs of liquid 100 feet unassisted, lift file boxes, lift 40 lbs centrifuge rotors, lift 25 lbs boxes from floor to counter tops, push/pull file boxes, lift heavy equipment on bench tops.
- Other – Ability to work rotating shifts as required, overtime as required, work in temperature extremes, confined spaces, climb, maintain olfactory function, be qualified physically for respirator use.
