Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse I (New Graduate) assists at the advanced beginner level in providing individualized, goal‑directed nursing care to patients and families utilizing principles and practices of the nursing process and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired outcomes.
Units & Location10E Orthopedic: MUSC’s Orthopedic Unit is located on 10 East in the Main Hospital in downtown Charleston. 10 East is a 20‑bed acute care, post‑operative unit, specializing in Orthopedic and Urology surgeries. The unit specializes in adult reconstruction, total joint replacement, ortho trauma, ortho oncology, and urologic procedures. MUSC’s Joint Replacement program has received the Joint Commission Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Knee Replacement and the Joint Commission Gold Seal Certification for Total Shoulder Replacement.
The unit was awarded the NAON Nursing Excellence (ONE) Award for excellence in nursing practice.
10W Trauma/Spine: Located on the top floor of the Main Hospital, 10 West is an acute care unit encouraging integrity, teamwork, and professional development. As a 21‑bed unit, it accepts patients from car accidents, assaults, and traumatic falls, and handles elective spine surgeries and overflow from the Emergency Department and Post Anesthesia Care Unit. It often functions at an intermediate care acuity level with supportive leaders and staff.
Hours& Schedule
36 scheduled weekly hours. 3‑12 hour shifts vary based on departmental needs. Rotating schedule.
Minimum Training & Education- Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred.
- RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma in nursing must be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and obtain the BSN within four years of hire or reclassification.
- Registered nurse licensure by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers or equivalent).
Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors and outdoors, from elevated areas, in confined spaces, kneeling, bending, twisting, squatting, pinching, gross motor, fine manipulation, overhead reach, repetitive motions, balance, and coordination. Must lift and carry 50 lbs unassisted, with occasional 36‑inch lifts of 50 lbs, and exert 50 lbs of force when necessary. Must maintain 20/40 vision, hearing acuity, and occasional olfactory and respirator use as required.
