Job Summary/Purpose
:
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) reports to the Nurse Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the PCT performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes.
Patient Care Technician I:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Patient Care Technician II:
High school diploma/GED and ONE of the following requirements must be met.
- Associate or Bachelor's degree
- At least 1 year work experience in a .6 FTE PCT I position at MUSC CHS
- 1 year of experience in a healthcare facility
- Active enrollment in nursing school with completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an accredited institution
- Active enrollment in a healthcare related field from an accredited institution
- Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited institution
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain Current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. (Infrequent); exert up to 50 lbs. of force (Frequent). Examples include: transferring a 100 lb. patient that cannot assist requires 50 lbs. of force; for every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker; 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet;
25 lbs. to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Visual and sensory requirements: maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or both; see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance; color discrimination; depth perception; good peripheral vision. Hearing and tactile requirements: maintain hearing acuity with correction; perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements;
deal effectively with stressful situations; work rotating shifts; work overtime as required; work in a latex safe environment; maintain tactile sensory functions.
