Job Description Summary — The Patient Care Technician (PCT) reports to the Nurse Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the PCT performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. Caring for Phase 2 post-anesthesia and observation patients.

Responsibilities

Job Description — Entity/Organization: MUHA (Medical University Hospital Authority/Medical Center). Hours per week: 36. Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: 3 12-hour night shifts per week including weekends and holidays. Fair Labor Standards Act Status:
Hourly.

Job Summary/Purpose — The PCT reports to the Nurse Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the PCT performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. Care for medical-surgical patients who are recovered from anesthesia and who are anticipated to be discharged to home post-op day zero or post-op day one.

Also cared for in Surgical Obs are preoperative medical-surgical patients who plan to have surgery within the next 24 hours.

Minimum Training and Education
  • Patient Care Technician I:
    High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Patient Care Technician II:
    High school diploma/GED and ONE of the following requirements must be met.

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree

  • At least 1 year work experience in a .6 FTE PCT I position at MUSC CHS

  • 1 year of experience in a healthcare facility

  • Active enrollment in nursing school with completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an accredited institution

  • Active enrollment in a healthcare-related field from an accredited institution

  • Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited institution

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations

Licensure/Certification s — Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain Current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

depth perception; peripheral vision. Hearing: maintain hearing acuity with correction. Fine motor and coordination requirements are described; ability to work in a latex-safe environment. Some positions require respirator qualification.
