Job Description Summary
The Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer I reports to the Perioperative Interventional Cardiology and Imaging Manager. Under indirect supervision, the role provides high‑quality echocardiograms for interpretation and diagnosis by a Pediatric Cardiologist. The position entails independent and efficient performance of clinical pediatric echo operations in the hospital and procedural setting, entering full preliminary reports and covering all MUSC Pediatric Echo Lab sites, including nights, weekends and holidays (on call).
The sonographer organizes and prioritizes patient exams and contributes to unit teamwork.
- Perform high‑quality pediatric echocardiograms in the hospital and procedural settings.
- Enter full preliminary reports and provide preliminary diagnoses to pediatric cardiologists.
- Cover all MUSC Pediatric Echo Lab sites, including nights, weekends and holidays (on call).
- Organize and prioritize patient exams and collaborate with unit teamwork.
- Graduation from a cardiovascular or ultrasound program or equivalent experience.
- Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) as an RDCS or CDC‑SP certification in pediatrics.
- Fetal echocardiography certification preferred.
- Associate of Arts/Science or a bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 0–2 years of experience in pediatric echo, with knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, hemodynamics and complex congenital heart disease.
- Experience in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Cath Lab preferred.
- Travel to outreach locations and availability to take call for the Pediatric Echo Lab.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs and working in temperature extremes. Capability to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted and to maintain vision, hearing and fine‑motor skills for job performance.
