Job Summary / Purpose

5 East, Acute Care Cardiovascular Unit, is a 19 bed Heart and Vascular Unit. Our patient population consists of primarily transplant (heart and lung) patients, heart failure, LVADs, vascular surgery patients, and general cardiology patients. We are a highly engaged team, that strives to provide the best patient centered care.

Responsibilities

Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal‑directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results.

Minimum Training and Education
  • Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred.
  • RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date. Refer to policy A141 for more details.
  • Minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse required.
Licensure, Certifications, Registrations
  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or an AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
Physical and Mental Requirements

Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors, working outside in temperature extremes, working from elevated areas, in confined spaces, kneeling positions, bending at the waist, twisting at the waist, squatting, pinching, gross motor activities, fine manipulation, overhead reaching, repetitive motions, using both legs, balance and coordination, lifting and carrying 50 lbs. unassisted, lifting/lowering objects 50 lbs.

from floor to 36 inches unassisted, lifting from 36" to overhead 25 lbs., exerting up to 50 lbs. of force. Vision 20/40 corrected, hearing acuity with correction, tactile sensory functions, etc. Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations, work rotating shifts, overtime as required, work in latex safe environment, respirator use (selected positions).
