Job Summary

Charleston, SC | Tenure Track Faculty Position/Cytogenomic Laboratory Director

Qualifications
  • an academically oriented candidate with 2 or more years of post-fellowship experience; current fellow/recent graduates will be considered
  • a PhD with American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) certification or eligibility in Cytogenetics and/or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics or MD or equivalent degree with relevant pathology specialty training and certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic, Clinical, and Molecular Genetic Pathology and at least two years of experience in Cytogenetics or Genomics, with eligibility for medical licensure in South Carolina
  • proficient in advanced practical, diagnostic, and interpretive skills in constitutional and oncological cytogenetics, FISH, chromosomal microarray, and next generation sequencing
  • capable of performing and optimizing quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results
  • knowledgeable and experienced in new molecular genomic and genetic test development, validation, implementation and quality control
  • experienced in fostering collaborative relationships with clinicians and researchers as well as serving as a resource to technologists at the bench
  • willing to participate in clinical and/or translational research endeavors
  • an excellent communicator with a strong work ethic and a collaborative approach to patient care
  • excited to participate in teaching medical and graduate students, and training pathology residents and fellows
  • an active participant in the ACGME-accredited molecular genetic pathology fellowship training program
Department Overview

MUSC Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is a collaborative team composed of over 60 faculty members including several Directors in the Cytogenomics section. The department offers high quality training programs with 22 residents and 10–12 fellows who have achieved a 100% board passage rate for the past 7 years. It holds CAP, AABB, ASHI, and FACT certifications and accreditations.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform job functions in an upright position; seated position; walking/mobile; work indoors and outdoors in all weather; work in confined/cramped spaces; perform tasks while kneeling, squatting, and pinching; use both hands/arms; perform repetitive hand/wrist/elbow/shoulder motions; reach in all directions; maintain good finger dexterity; maintain tactile sensory functions; lift and carry up to 15 lbs. unassisted; maintain 20/40 vision corrected;

recognize objects close and at distance; maintain hearing acuity; perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements.
