Financial Controller | Direct Line to Ownership | Newly Created Role
We’re a well-established, long-tenured Charleston area staple company with a strong reputation, a loyal customer base, and big growth ambitions. This is a newly created Financial Controller role driven by the company’s continued expansion. We’re looking for someone who truly understands how a small, fast-growing business under $50M in revenue thinks, moves, and operates.
We need a Financial Controller who is ready to own the financials — someone who thrives in the details today and is excited about growing into a strategic leadership role tomorrow.
This is not a “sit back and review” Controller role. This is a roll-up-your-sleeves, hands-on, in-the-weeds opportunity for a high-caliber accounting professional who loves getting things right, building strong processes, and taking pride in running a tight financial operation.
You’ll report directly to ownership, have full visibility into the business, and play a critical role in shaping the financial foundation that will support the company’s next phase of growth.
We are open to:
- Proven Controllers
- Strong Accounting Managers ready for the next step
- Sharp, driven Senior Accountants who are eager to grow into a true Financial Controller role
What matters most is horsepower, humility, and hunger — not ego.
What The Controller Will Own- Full responsibility for the company’s financials: P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow
- Preparation and presentation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to ownership
- Budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Hands-on management of the general ledger, month-end close, journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
- Oversight of AP, AR, billing, collections, and cash management
- Building, tightening, and improving internal controls and accounting processes
- Helping with audits, tax support, and working with our external accounting/CPA partners
- Developing and mentoring a small but critical accounting team (billing and collections)
- Ownership of payroll processes (currently transitioned to ADP)
In the near term, your mission is simple:
crush the numbers, clean up anything that needs tightening, and build a rock-solid financial engine.
Longer term, you’ll grow into a true business partner, sitting at the leadership table helping drive strategy and scale.
Who The Controller- A doer, not just a reviewer — no task is “beneath” you
- Detail-obsessed but business-minded
- Entrepreneurial, resourceful, and comfortable in a growing, evolving sub-$50M environment
- Confident, but coachable and moldable — you want to learn the business our way first, then help make it better
- Energized by ownership, accountability, and building something great
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience (Controller, Accounting Manager, or strong Senior Accountant)
- Strong technical accounting foundation and month-end close
- Experience with Quick Books
- Advanced Excel skills
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and collaborate across departments
- Experience in service, construction, distribution, or asset-based environments is helpful,
NOT mandatory - CPA or public accounting audit background is a plus,
NOT a requirement
Compensation & Benefits for the Financial Controller
- Competitive compensation based on experience
- Strong medical, dental, vision, and additional benefit coverage
- 401(k) with 4% company match
- Generous PTO
- Stable, respected organization with long-term career opportunities
- Direct access to ownership and real influence
- A true “build it and own it” Controller role in a newly created position due to growth
- Clear runway to grow into senior financial leadership as the company scales
If you’re the kind of finance professional who wants responsibility, impact, and a seat at the table as the company grows — this is the financial controller role you’ve been preparing for.
