Compensation Technician (Alliances)
Integrated Finance & Accounting Solutions (IFAS) invites applicants to join our Compensation team. The role is based in the Office of Global Compensation, working with our American Pay Processing (AMP) unit.
Job OverviewGlobal Compensation provides payroll, annuity, and related benefit services to U.S. Foreign Service employees, Department of State Civil Service personnel, and Locally Employed (LE) staff. Operating in 180 countries across 140 currencies, we deliver time & attendance management, payroll processing, customer support, and reporting for both domestic and overseas employees.
Responsibilities- Prepare and maintain accurate time & attendance (T&A) reports (bi‑monthly) and compute pay, leave balances, and allotments for local compensation plans.
- Process pay actions for Additional Entitlements, including Communications Differential, Danger Pay, Additional Post Allowances, Special Differentials, and more.
- Monitor and review Additional Entitlements such as T&A Adjustments, Post Differential updates, and error corrections.
- Receive, research, analyze, and process pay actions for Remaining Deductions including Garnishments, Union Dues, Medicare adjustments, and W‑2/1099 requests.
- Conduct audits, reconcile reports, and make retroactive adjustments, ensuring records are correct and compliant.
- Perform manual calculations when automated systems cannot generate necessary reconciliation figures.
- Investigate and rectify erroneous payments, resolve T&A rejects, and develop repayment schedules for over payments.
- Prepare and submit required payroll cycle reports to the Department of State.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll matters.
- Verify personnel actions and contracts, ensuring they conform to regulations and advise post offices on deficiencies.
- Superior multi‑tasking, customer service, analytical and organizational skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication.
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word; experience with database management systems.
- Associate degree or four‑year degree preferred; experience with large, complex financial systems preferred.
- Technical system support for automated financial systems; ability to analyze transaction errors and provide user support.
- Experience with mainframe, web‑based, or client‑server technologies and business systems analysis.
- Ability to analyze accounting records, reports, and data to identify and correct discrepancies.
The employee will work an 8‑hour shift between 6:15 am and 6:00 pm with a non‑compensated 45‑minute lunch, as directed by the Project Manager. Additional hours may be required upon authorization. This is an in‑office position.
