Job Overview

The Problem‑Solving Specialist is responsible for driving structured problem‑solving processes across production lines to ensure product quality, operational efficiency, and compliance with internal standards. This role leverages methodologies such as 8D, Root Cause Analysis (Ishikawa, 5 Why), and digital tools to identify, analyze, and resolve complex issues impacting manufacturing performance.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate and execute the 8D methodology, containment actions, and corrective measures for quality and process issues:
    • Complete D1–D2 with a clear problem description
    • Drive D3 containment to a verified clean point, document evidence, and close temporary measures
    • Lead walk‑backs/pipeline checks across shops and validate origination with data (QSYS/VoCA/FTC)
    • Facilitate multi‑shop root‑cause sessions (D4); triangulate evidence across data, gemba, and tests using Ishikawa diagrams and 5‑Why analysis to identify systemic causes and prevent recurrence
    • Design D5/D6 countermeasures with mistake‑proofing and verify effectiveness in D7
    • Curate D8 lessons learned and update digital templates/standards used in SFM
  • Use Shop Floor Management (SFM) systems and digital templates for documentation, escalation, and feedback loops:
    • Read top‑topics dashboards; interpret basic trend charts (3

      MIS/VoCA)
    • Build simple filters to isolate signal; correlate sensor triggers to start problem solving
    • Create analyses that link process changes/shutdowns to defect frequency; quantify effectiveness
    • Specify new dashboard requirements and validate adoption in routines
    • Identify waste at GEMBA during 5‑cycle checks; map simple process steps
    • Moderate multi‑shop sessions (Assembly/Paint/Body, Logistics, Maintenance) to converge on root cause
    • Provide guidance and training to team leaders and operators on standardized problem‑solving processes
    • Coach GL/TL to start problem solving at the Installer Principle and elevate when needed
    • Integrate lessons learned into standards and monitor recurrence rates across shops
    • Participate in problem‑solving meetings to Q‑Forum to escalates critical problems for escalation to management
    • Coordinate complex problem‑solving resolution handover to the Failure Analysis Team in the Quality department
    • Perform other duties as required
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering or similar, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related field; or an associate degree with 5–10 years automotive experience with Failure Analysis.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of 8D Problem Solving methodology
  • Capability in data analysis tools and digital manufacturing systems
  • Good communication and facilitation skills for cross‑functional teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Power BI dashboards, SFM routines, and digital escalation workflows
  • Familiarity with CQC (Customer Quality Check) processes and audit requirements
  • German and/or Spanish language knowledge is a plus
