Position Summary:

The role of the Ashley Hall Diploma Programme (DP) Coordinator is to plan and oversee the IB Diploma accreditation process, with the ultimate goal of being authorized to offer the IB Diploma by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). The coordinator would oversee the alignment of the school’s curriculum and teaching frameworks to ensure they meet the expectations of the IBO. Through coordination with teachers, administrators, and the IB regional office, the coordinator is responsible for preparing our Upper School for the full delivery of the IB Diploma, including supervising the documentation, reporting, analysis, assessment delivery, and examination delivery and standards as required by the IBO.

A key part of this role is ensuring that the school is in compliance with DP requirements. The DP Coordinator has oversight and coordination of all IB related activities, including teacher training and unit development, student evaluation and the student experience. The DP Coordinator is expected to teach an upper school class.

The DP Coordinator has overall responsibility for:
Leadership
  • Work with the Assistant Head of School for Teaching and Learning and the Upper School Division Director to develop a step‑by‑step plan to gain authorization to offer the IB DP
  • Offer DP guidance/training/workshops as needed during regularly scheduled meetings
  • Work with the Assistant Head of School for Teaching and Learning, the Upper School Director, and the MYPCoordinator to develop a bridging program in Grades 9 and 10 that will prepare students for the challenge of IB Diploma course work. Refine or develop policies that reflect the IB philosophy and satisfy Diploma Programme requirements
  • Support and mentor upper school teachers through all facets of the IB programme
  • After implementation/adoption of the programme, support and mentor new upper school teachers in the classroom
  • Regularly review and follow all IB rules, regulations and guidelines to support programme implementation and ongoing development to ensure fidelity in the implementation of the DP requirements and specifications necessary for the successful implementation of the programme (as outlined in Programme standard and practices)
  • Provide learning engagement input and feedback for upper school teachers
  • Support teachers through regular classroom visits and feedback
  • Provide opportunities for teachers to observe one another in practice
Communication
  • Keep the School’s leadership regularly informed of DP developments
  • Maintain communication between Ashley Hall and the IB
  • Work with the Division Director to create a communication plan to educate both students and parents about the IB DP program
  • Provide curriculum‑related parent meetings and workshop opportunities
  • Ensure that teachers have access to the IB Online Curriculum Centre and newly published DP documents
  • Contribute to the presentation and promotion of the academic program within the Ashley Hall Community
  • Collaborate with the PYP and MYP Coordinators on a bi‑weekly basis to ensure continuity throughout the program
  • Liaise with the coordinator of DEIB and Community Partnerships to seek out ways to reinforce the School’s efforts in that area
Professional Development
  • In consultation with the administrative team, identify areas for professional development and provide support to upper school teachers prior to the professional development process
  • Provide divisional, small group, and individual professional development opportunities as needed
  • Participate with school leadership on curriculum and assessment within school and the IBDP
  • Provide upper school teachers with relevant and up-to-date IB and IBDP curriculum documentation and documentation framework support
