Literacy Specialist, Alpha

Overview

Alpha School is seeking a Literacy Specialist to execute an AI-enhanced reading program. This is an on-site position located in Chantilly (Washington), VA;
San Francisco, CA; or New York City, NY. Weekly salary is $120,000, with full health, dental, and vision coverage from day one. Relocation assistance is provided.

• Leading adaptive reading workshops that build core competencies in phonics, fluency, and comprehension
• Creating personalized motivational experiences that engage students and foster a lasting passion for reading
• Reviewing student performance data to iteratively improve instruction and extract meaningful insights
• Partnering with the technology team to assess and refine AI-powered literacy platforms

• Following pre-packaged curricula or published instructional sequences

• Cultivate a genuine enthusiasm for reading in young students

• Bachelor’s degree
• Master’s degree in reading instruction or advanced certification in reading (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, LETRS, or equivalent)
• Minimum of 2 years delivering small-group reading interventions to early elementary learners
• Ability to evaluate reading levels, organize student groups, and create differentiated instruction independently of pre-written materials
• Experience with AI/adaptive learning platforms and ability to respond to student interactions within those systems
• Authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring sponsorship
• Available to work on-site at one of our locations:
  Chantilly (Washington), VA;
  San Francisco, CA; or New York City, NY

This is a full-time (40 hours per week), long-term position. The position is immediately available and requires entering into an independent contractor agreement with Crossover as a Contractor of Record. The compensation level for this role is $60 USD/hour, which equates to $120,000 USD/year assuming 40 hours per week and 50 weeks per year. The payment period is weekly. For more details, consult
